Caster Applications And Conditions Of Use

Selecting casters based on allowable load

Only 3 casters sometimes provide support even in normal instances where 4 are used. This is due to, for example, the condition of the surface they are traveling on. You should select casters that will easily be able to bear the estimated total load.
Total load ÷ 3 < allowable load per 1 caster

Traction

Wheels are made to be installed on equipment and facilitate movement and transport with a person applying force. Casters are subjected to very taxing conditions such as overloading, impact, vibration, and high-speed rotation, as a result of traction from the imparting of motion, and extended, continuous use as a mechanical part. Select wheels in accordance with the application and conditions of use.

Stopper

As the stopper on a caster is a simple mechanism, it is possible for wear or scratching with extended use to cause a stopper to become disengaged with only a small level of shock. To ensure safe use, do not leave on an incline with the stopper engaged. Stopper capability generally will also degrade on hard-material wheels. Be sure to use an exclusive caster holder.

Ambient conditions

Casters assume usage indoors at normal temperatures. Be sure to use suitable wheels as well as fittings and lubrication for use in special temperature conditions such as freezing or high temperatures, or in special environments that may be acidic, alkalic, salt, chemical, etc. Also note that the wheel material may stain floor surfaces.

Inspection / maintenance / replacement

To ensure safe use, inspect the wheels and bolts regularly for looseness. Also oil moving parts allowing casters to turn and wheel shafts to improve durability and functioning. Lubricants suited to each product are available. Contact us for details. Replace wheels or fittings that experience cracks or looseness with new ones. Wheels in particular are consumable items. Be aware of scratching, cracks, and wear.
